EMDR Therapy in Sydney –
Heal from Trauma with Dasha
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from trauma and distressing experiences. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor and EMDR therapist based in Sydney, I support clients in processing painful memories safely, restoring calm, and rebuilding a sense of inner strength and balance.
What Is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing.
It is a structured approach to therapy that helps the brain process and integrate traumatic or distressing memories so that they no longer feel overwhelming. Instead of talking through every detail of the event, EMDR Therapy uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds) to activate the brain’s natural healing capacity and restore emotional balance.

How EMDR Therapy Works

During EMDR Therapy sessions, you remain fully present and aware while gently revisiting past memories in a safe and supportive environment. The process helps your brain re-store the memories in a way that no longer triggers the same emotional or physical reaction. Over time, distressing experiences become less vivid, and new positive beliefs about yourself can emerge.

EMDR Therapy can help you to:
-
Reduce emotional distress connected to past events
-
Strengthen resilience and self-compassion
-
Support nervous system regulation
-
Integrate past experiences into a calmer present
Who EMDR Therapy Helps

EMDR Therapy is designated by the World Health Organisation as holding the most evidence base for the treatment of Trauma, Complex Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). EMDR Therapy is recommended for anyone who has experienced overwhelming or painful life events.
It is widely used to treat:

-
Trauma, Complex Trauma and PTSD
-
Childhood neglect or abuse
-
Anxiety, panic, or phobias
-
Grief and complicated loss
-
Relationship or attachment trauma
-
Stress and burnout

You don’t need a PTSD diagnosis to benefit from EMDR Therapy — many clients simply want to feel lighter and more grounded in daily life.

Common Questions about EMDR Therapy

How many EMDR sessions will I need?
EMDR Therapy is flexible — some people notice positive changes in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term work, especially after complex or ongoing trauma.

Will I have to talk about everything that happened?
Not necessarily. EMDR Therapy allows you to heal without having to describe every detail. You stay in control at all times, and we move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Is EMDR Therapy effective online?
Yes. EMDR Therapy can be delivered safely and effectively through secure video sessions, and many clients find it just as powerful from the comfort of their own home.

How long is an EMDR Therapy session?
An EMDR Therapy session usually lasts between 75 and 90 minutes.
This slightly longer time frame allows enough space to move through all phases of the EMDR process safely — from preparation and grounding, to memory processing and emotional stabilisation at the end.
A longer session helps you complete a full “processing cycle” in one sitting, reducing the risk of feeling unsettled or unfinished afterwards.

Will I feel drained after an EMDR Therapy session?
It’s common to feel a little tired or emotionally sensitive after an EMDR Therapy session — your brain has been working hard to process and integrate old memories. This doesn’t mean anything is wrong; it’s simply part of the healing process. Most people find that any fatigue eases within a few hours, followed by a greater sense of calm or relief. I always make sure we finish each session with grounding and stabilising techniques, so you leave feeling settled and safe.
